Searching for both a means and an excuse to return to East Africa, he began a photography self-study program and eventually returned to Tanzania in 2005 with his first digital camera and professional lens.  Since then, he has been documenting African wildlife throughout eastern and southern Africa and his images have been published in Outdoor Photographer, Nature’s Best Photography, Asian Photography, Africa Geographic and a number of other magazines and periodicals around the world.  His prints have been displayed in many galleries and museums, including the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D. C.  Many conservation organizations use his images for fund raising, public relations and educational initiatives.

Billy Dodson’s goal is simple … he attempts to render justice to the intrinsic beauty of his subjects, be they animals, people or landscapes.
