Raw Power in the MaraBilly Dodson
Photography - Archival Pigment print
Although Billy Dodson is dedicated to the art of photography, the primary purpose of his work is conservation. He has stated that there is no more worthwhile use of his work than to advance the cause of wildlife conservation on the African continent. His images are widely used by the African Wildlife Foundation, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, the Kenya Land Conservation Trust and a number for other non-profit organizations.
'Raw Power in the Mara' is part of Billy Dodson's Lion series, it captured an aging lion taking a break from his meal and scanning the horizon on an early September morning in the Masai Mara in southwestern Kenya.
Billy Dodson
US photographer Billy Dodson’s passion for wildlife photography began on a mountain climbing trip to Tanzania in 2001. After summiting Kilimanjaro he visited the Serengeti and developed an obsession with the beauty of East Africa’s wildlife. His ‘once in a life time’ safari experience completely altered the trajectory and focus of his life.
Billy Dodson’s goal is simple … he attempts to render justice to the intrinsic beauty of his subjects, be they animals, people or landscapes.
