Micky Goldstein
Micky Goldstein is an Israeli contemporary artist, born in Chile and currently based in Tel Aviv. He studied art in the 1980s at the Nery Bloomfield WIZO Academy of Design and Education in Haifa and further developed his practice through workshops with Yacob Zim and Abraham Eilat.
Goldstein’s recent works focus on the human soul, expressed through a graphic yet minimalist visual language. His portraits combine illustration, text, and symbolic quotes, capturing the essence of iconic figures in a raw and expressive way.
After years of painting figurative and impressionist works, Goldstein developed a new artistic approach rooted in the idea that perfection exists only as an abstraction of the human mind—not in reality. His Perfect Imperfect portrait series challenges conventional techniques by introducing deliberate disruptions to the creative process, such as painting in the dark or drawing with his left hand. He also experiments with unconventional materials and mediums, further expanding his artistic exploration.
His solo exhibition “I’m Not Afraid of The Dark” (March 2022) featured stories through short pictures, scenes, and anecdotes drawn from childhood. Mixing imagination with memory, the works expanded beyond the limits of a room, a house, or even the world, finding a new order on the canvas.
In his recent body of work, Goldstein turns to watercolor on paper, drawing inspiration from the philosophy and aesthetics of wabi. These works shift the focus from human figures to nature, capturing impressions and emotions through minimalist depictions. His paintings convey universality in a way that is both minimal and deeply resonant.
Micky Goldstein’s works are included in private collections in Argentina and the United States and have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Israel, Chile, and the USA.
